Acrylic Tape or Rubber Tape? Which one to choose?
Among the tapes available on the market, we can distinguish various packaging tapes, such as rubber tapes and acrylic tapes. Which one better fulfills its purpose – acrylic tape or rubber tape?
Self-adhesive tapes have an extremely wide range of applications and are a frequently used product in everyday life, not only in workplaces but also in households. It's always worth having one on hand, as it can be extremely helpful, and even indispensable in many situations. Products such as tapes with custom prints are often used by companies that place their logo on them and use them to pack shipments, which raises brand awareness and is an effective form of marketing. When choosing the right packaging tape, a number of factors should be considered, and it should be adapted to your own needs and to the shipment you want to secure.
Tapes with acrylic adhesive
Popular acrylic tapes can boast of relatively high durability at an attractive price. The tape's base consists of water-based acrylic adhesive and a cross-linking agent. Acrylic tapes currently available on the market are characterized by increasingly better parameters – the adhesive is resistant to UV radiation and aging, and the tape can be used at temperatures from 0°C to 40°C.
Acrylic adhesive tape is usually not very resistant to moisture, so it is better to use it in dry places and positive temperatures. Depending on the type of tape, it can be quiet or noisy. Quiet acrylic tape is characterized by greater adhesive strength and provides greater comfort of use. Noisy acrylic tape, on the other hand, is much cheaper and boasts the best transparency of all tapes available on the market.

Hot-Melt Rubber Adhesive Tape
Synthetic rubber tapes are characterized byhigh adhesion and have significantly better adhesive propertiesthan acrylic tapes. They also differ from acrylic tapes in a slightly higher price and better parameters. In addition to good adhesion, they are alsohighly resistant to moisture and low temperatures. Due to their properties, they can be used to secure larger cartons and important packages or larger loads transported on pallets.
Acrylic or rubber tape?
The choice of the right tape depends mainly on its intended use. Both acrylic and rubber tapes are adapted to different conditions, soit is worth checking their parameters and properties.Acrylic tapeswork best on smooth and slippery surfaces such as paper, foil, or cardboard. Due to their lower moisture resistance, they work well in dry areas and perfectly retain their propertiesat positive and low temperatures, but not below zero. Packaging tape with acrylic adhesive will find its application in:
- securing lighter shipments and cartons,
- long-term storage of packages, e.g., in a warehouse,
- office work.
Fora larger number of heavier packages to be packed, Hot-Melt rubber tape works better, as it is much more durable and resistant to both moisture and extremely low or high temperatures. Thanks to modification, Hot-Melt rubber adhesive provideshigh bonding strength and durability, which distinguishes the so-called freezer or strong types.
Or perhaps solvent adhesive tape?
Rubber tapesare divided into those with synthetic adhesive and those with natural adhesive – these are the so-calledsolvent tapes. They are characterized by extremely high adhesion, which is possible thanks to the use of natural rubber adhesive. This makes them idealfor both smooth and porous surfaces. Once applied, they are difficult to remove, effectively protecting packages from unwanted opening. Solvent rubber tapes are highly resistant to moisture anddo not peel off even at sub-zero temperatures. Due to their properties, they will find their application in:
- long-term storage of goods,
- moving,
- office work,
- sealing cartons,
- securing shipments.
